Synology has an excellent tutorial on their site that walks you through diagnosing and repairing a volume in your Synology NAS should you get a warning light or beep.
Assuming that your Synology NAS is beeping, the first step is to turn off the beep so you can work without that warning beep in the background:
1. Beep off the DiskStation
To beep off the DiskStation, you can go to Main Menu > Storage Manager > Storage. Here you will see the Beep off button. By clicking on it, you can turn off the beeping sound.
The next two steps are diagnosis and repair. Typical causes of failure include the most common - a hard disk failure. If you are running the NAS in one of the protected RAID modes, repairing your NAS usually just requires replacing the hard drive with a new one and following the simple steps listed in the tutorial.
Synology has a bunch of tutorials on their site for dealing with all kinds of issues and for implementing the many features of its disk manager software. Find the tutorial list here.
