With a NAS from QNAP, low-end doesn't mean low performance or a dramatically reduced feature set. The QNAP TS-119 is a good example of QNAP's philosophy of reducing the size but not the performance or features.
The TS-119 is a one bay bring your own drive NAS featuring the 1.2 GHz CPU and unusually outsized (for a one bay NAS) 512 MB of RAM. It includes, as do all the recent QNAP releases, iSCSI target services as well as file sharing for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers and devices.
The TS-119 features TwonkyMedia server built in for serving all of your media files to DLNA media players such as the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

The firmware provided by QNAP is a modern web-based, AJAX enabled interface. Using the firmware, you can enable such in-demand features as bittorrent support (no PC is needed to be on) and iTunes support.
One of the best features - and one that is only available in a few NAS devices - is that the NAS, although powerful, and supporting the latest 2 TB hard drives, requires no fan for operation. The only sound you will hear from the NAS is the sound of the hard drive you put in it.
Independent tests show that SAMBA (windows style) file sharing can be as speedy as in the mid 40's MB/s for gigabit read performance - more than fast enough for several HD video streams over the local network when using standard gigabit networking equipment.
The TS-119 provides this performance while using very little power - QNAP estimates that the NAS uses only 5-13 watts from sleep mode to fully operational.
