Cisco NSS3000

Though Cisco normally markets most of its products for larger businesses and massive corporations, the NSS3000 is a relatively lighter model, primarily aimed at small businesses.  A 4 bay bring your own drive system, the NSS3000 is intended to be a 4 terabyte server, including 128 MB RAM and 256 MB Flash.  Considering the wide array of other types of Cisco hardware available on the market, one of the NSS3000's biggest features is that it is intentionally designed to work well with other Cisco devices.

The NSS3000 provides a variety of RAID options, supporting configurations for RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10, plus of course JBOD use.  On the whole we found the RAID support to be fairly good, though there have been some consumer supports of data lost when hard drives not officially supported by the system were used in a RAID capacity, so do be sure to check compatibility before adding anything absolutely vital to this particular NAS.  As with many other modern NAS models, the NSS3000 does support hot-swapping of drives, allowing an ailing drive in a RAID arrangement to be swapped out for another without taking the device offline for maintenance.

Security is also a primary feature for the NSS3000, as Cisco bills file encryption support as one of the core features of the model.  Also, the physical security of the device is a bit higher than most NASs available on the market today, as the hard drives can all be sealed within the unit by a lock on the chassis itself.
