The long time small form factor PC maker, Shuttle, has announced what I believe is its first NAS box, the Shuttle OMNINAS KD20. Over at Slashgear, they did a short hands on with the new NAS a few days ago. No testing or otherwise using the NAS was performed, but at least we can see the new box.
Slashgear was impressed by the build quality but thinks that Shuttle has some catching up to do software-wise:
Build quality seems good – though Shuttle obviously has some experience making small, sturdy hardware – though the company is obviously coming from behind in terms of things like software flexibility; rivals like Synology already offer plugin-based feature expansion, for instance. Still, Shuttle looks to be aiming for the long-haul, with the KD20 only being the first of the new OMNINAS range. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, as is release date.
As the last sentence indicates, pricing has not been announced, nor is it clear when exactly this box will be released.
