Hardware.Info has reviewed the Buffalo TeraStation Pro Duo WSS. The eight page review includes a number of screen shots and speed test results.
Unusual for a small NAS, the Buffalo Terastation Pro Duo WSS runs Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Workgroup Edition as its operating system:
It has business features such as deduplicating files (Windows Single Instance Storage) which prevent files from being save twice and can save a lot of space. It's also possible to create a distributed file system (DFS). Basically it's also just a smart, compact file server on a Windows network which you can set up as back-up server as well. For that Buffalo included back-up and replication software.
Speed as tested was good but not spectacular:
The read speed of the Buffalo TeraStation Pro Duo WSS is on the low side with 51.5 MB/s, but the write speed is very good with 108 MB/s.
Generally, this NAS is one to look at if you need or find compelling the thought of Windows Storage Server 2008 in a small box:
Are you looking for a complete package for your business Windows network, and you're not too excited by a NAS based on Linux? If you do want the advantages of a NAS such as the compact size and energy-efficient hardware, then the Buffalo TeraStation Pro Duo WSS could be an interesting alternative for you. All you basically need to do is to take it out of the box, connect it to your network and you can get started. This simple approach is definitely an advantage in business environments.
